Is Acrobat Pro free for nonprofits?

No, but the price is small. Adobe's nonprofit Acrobat page lists Acrobat Pro at $15 per user per year, for up to 10 licenses per organization, as of October 2026. Adobe's November 2024 announcement describes it as 94% off.

The program moved. Older guides send you to TechSoup, which no longer sells Acrobat Pro; it is now bought directly from Adobe. That is one of several programs that have left TechSoup. Our TechSoup alternatives guide lists where the others went.

What the discount actually covers

You get Acrobat Pro, the same product, as individual one-year subscriptions. That design has consequences:

  • No team admin console. Each staff member applies and holds their own license under their own Adobe ID. There is no central place to reassign a seat when someone leaves, so keep a simple list of who holds the organization's licenses.
  • Ten licenses maximum. Larger teams pay standard price for anyone past ten.
  • Annual re-verification. Put the renewal date on a shared calendar. If verification lapses, the license reverts to standard pricing.

Worked example

A six-person nonprofit pays for Acrobat Pro for teams on the annual prepaid plan.

  • Current cost: 6 × $287.88 = $1,727.28 per year
  • Nonprofit cost: 6 × $15 = $90 per year
  • Saving: $1,727.28 − $90 = $1,637.28 per year

A 12-person team can only put 10 people on nonprofit licenses:

  • 10 × $15 = $150, plus 2 × $287.88 = $575.76 at the teams price
  • Total: $150 + $575.76 = $725.76, compared with 12 × $287.88 = $3,454.56 today
  • Saving: $2,728.80 per year

In that case, check whether all 12 people really need Pro. Staff who only view, comment on, and sign PDFs can use Adobe's free Acrobat Reader instead. Give the 10 nonprofit seats to the people who edit, combine, and prepare forms.

The free audit compares Acrobat against your other document and e-signature tools to catch duplicate spending.

Who should and shouldn't switch

Switch if you are paying Adobe's business price for up to 10 Acrobat Pro users and you are an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) or a qualifying public library. Each user moves their Adobe ID onto the nonprofit subscription, then the old paid subscription is cancelled or allowed to lapse. Time the cancellation so nobody loses access mid-project.

Keep the teams plan if central license management matters more to you than the savings, for example with high staff turnover and no one to track individual renewals. At six users the gap is $1,637.28 a year, so most small organizations will find the tracking worth it.

Consider Canva for design work. If some of your Adobe spending is for graphics rather than PDFs, eligible nonprofits can get Canva's premium features free for up to 50 people. Canva does not replace Acrobat for PDF editing, though.

Church eligibility

In the US, Adobe requires IRS recognition as a 501(c)(3) (or qualifying public library status), and users need an organization email address to verify. Churches are tax-exempt automatically, and many have no determination letter. If yours doesn't, check whether you are covered by a denominational group exemption before applying. Frequently asked questions

Is Adobe Acrobat free for nonprofits?

No, but it is close. Adobe sells Acrobat Pro for Nonprofits at $15 per user per year, up to 10 licenses per organization, as of October 2026.

Can I still get Acrobat Pro through TechSoup?

No. TechSoup no longer offers Acrobat Pro. The nonprofit subscription is now sold directly by Adobe.

What happens after the first year?

The discount must be reapplied every year. If eligibility isn't re-verified, the subscription reverts to Adobe's standard price.

Can volunteers or board members get a nonprofit Acrobat license?

Adobe's terms limit the licenses to nonprofit staff, not beneficiaries, members or donors. Ask Adobe directly about board members before assigning them a seat.
