Built by someone who was overpaying, too
NonProfitSaver started with a single bookkeeping review at Storyline Missions, the small ministry our founder, Mike Krieg, runs.
The organization was paying around $125 a month for QuickBooks Online and about $875 a year for seven Google Workspace Business Starter seats, billed through its web host, Bluehost. Google's own list price for those seats is $588 a year, and Google's nonprofit edition is free. Both vendors offer nonprofit programs. Together, those two line items represented an estimated $2,300 a year, real money for an organization that funds people, not software.
The same review looked past software. Storyline was paying an outside provider $1,800 a month for bookkeeping and administration. It brought that work in house, at what our founder estimates is about $800 a month in staff time (an estimate, not an invoice). That saves about $12,000 a year, for a total of roughly $14,300 a year across software and services. The lesson we took: review every cost, including services, and choose the cheaper path, whether that's a nonprofit program, a different provider, or doing it yourself.
Nobody had done anything wrong. Nonprofit pricing is scattered across vendor sites, TechSoup listings, and eligibility fine print. It changes. Applying sometimes means opening a new account and migrating data. Busy teams reasonably stick with what works.
We built NonProfitSaver to close that gap: a free audit that tells you, with sources, where you're overpaying, and optional hands-on guidance for the switches that take more than a form.
What we believe
- Nonprofits shouldn't pay business prices when nonprofit pricing is available.
- Numbers need sources. Every price links to where we found it and when.
- Estimates aren't guarantees. We label uncertainty instead of hiding it.
- Our fee should be smaller than your savings. That's why paid help is priced as a share of validated savings.
Independence
We don't accept payment from vendors to appear in the directory, and listings aren't ranked by any commercial relationship. If that ever changes for a specific link (for example an affiliate program), we'll label it clearly on the page.
