Is Canva free for nonprofits?
Yes. Canva for Nonprofits gives one team of up to 50 members all Canva Pro premium features, plus team and collaboration tools, free, as of October 2026. It is not a percentage discount. Pages describing "20% off" or similar are wrong or out of date.
What the discount actually covers
The free team gets every Canva Pro premium feature plus Canva's team collaboration tools. You don't pay per member up to 50. Two details matter in practice:
- It is one team. If different departments run their own Canva accounts today, consolidate them into the nonprofit team rather than applying separately.
- Above 50 members, you move to Enterprise at 50% off. Canva doesn't publish Enterprise pricing, so there is no way to calculate that cost without a quote.
Every person you invite to the team counts toward the 50, including volunteers. Before inviting everyone, decide who actually designs and who only needs to see finished work.
Worked example
A nonprofit with six staff and volunteers on Canva Business (formerly Teams) at list price:
- Current cost: 6 people × $250 per year = $1,500 per year
- Canva for Nonprofits: $0
- Saving: $1,500 per year
A one-person shop on Canva Pro at $144 a year saves $144, and gains the ability to add up to 49 more people at no extra cost. That is the bigger change: a solo Pro account can only be used by one person, so organizations often share a single login. The nonprofit team removes the reason to do that.
At 60 members, the first 50 are free and the remaining 10 need Enterprise at 50% off an unpublished price. Get the quote before you invite member 51.
Who should and shouldn't switch
Apply if you are an officially registered nonprofit or charity (for example a 501(c)(3)) paying for Pro or Business. Switching is light: once approved, the nonprofit team replaces your paid subscription and you cancel the paid plan.
Expect a rejection if you are a sports club, professional association, or business; Canva lists these as ineligible. Rejections are also common when documents are unclear or Canva can't confirm the applicant works for the organization, so:
- apply from an email address on your organization's domain if you can,
- have your IRS determination letter (or your country's equivalent) ready as a clear PDF,
- make sure the legal name on the letter matches your website and application.
Canva's eligibility guidelines (read October 2026) also exclude government and government-affiliated bodies, political and lobbying groups, K–12 schools (sent to Canva Education), 501(c) groups other than 501(c)(3), and private or grant-making foundations. They don't mention churches either way; see Canva for churches for what that means in practice.
Also using Adobe? If you pay for Adobe tools mainly for PDF editing, Canva won't replace that; see the Acrobat Pro nonprofit offer, which is $15 per user per year. For a wider view, the nonprofit software discounts guide lists every program we track, and the free audit will flag overlapping design tools.
Church eligibility
Canva's published exclusions do not include churches, and Canva's rules are set by country. A US church with an IRS determination letter or coverage under a denominational group exemption has clear proof of registered nonprofit status. A church with neither may struggle to verify. See church eligibility for nonprofit discounts and church software discounts.
How to apply
- Confirm eligibility under your country's guidelines
- Create or log in to a Canva account
- Read the program terms
- Submit the application form
- Complete verification
Catches and limitations
- 50-member cap on the free team
- Rejections are common when documentation is unclear or affiliation cannot be confirmed
Frequently asked questions
Is Canva free for nonprofits?
Yes, for eligible organizations. Canva for Nonprofits gives one team of up to 50 members all Canva Pro premium features plus team collaboration tools at no cost, as of October 2026.
Is the Canva nonprofit discount 20% off?
No. Some pages describe a percentage discount, but Canva's help center describes the nonprofit program as free for one team of up to 50 members. Seats beyond 50 are 50% off on Canva Enterprise.
What happens if we have more than 50 people?
The first 50 members are free. Additional seats require Canva Enterprise at 50% off, and Canva does not publish the Enterprise price, so you will need a quote.
Is Canva free for churches?
Canva's help center lists sports clubs, professional associations and businesses as ineligible; it does not list churches. A church still needs to be an officially registered nonprofit under Canva's country rules and to verify affiliation.
