AI Tools Nonprofit Discounts Compared: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and Claude
By Mike Krieg · Updated October 20, 2026
All four major AI assistants have a nonprofit price, but they are not equal. As of October 2026, ChatGPT Business and Claude Team both cost $8 per user per month for verified nonprofits, Gemini is free if you use Google Workspace for Nonprofits, and Microsoft 365 Copilot is 15% off, which still leaves it more expensive than Microsoft's non-discounted Copilot Business plan.
This guide compares the regular and nonprofit prices, who is eligible, how to apply and the catch for each, then works out what a 5-person team would pay. NonProfitSaver is independent: we have no affiliate links and are not paid by any of these vendors.
The comparison table
Prices are per user per month in US dollars, from each vendor's own pages, checked 2026-10-18.
| ChatGPT Business | Microsoft 365 Copilot | Gemini | Claude Team | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Regular price | $20 billed annually, $25 monthly | $30 paid yearly (Copilot Business: $21) | Google AI Pro $19.99/month per person | $20 billed annually, $25 monthly |
| Nonprofit price | $8 annually, $10 monthly | $25.50 paid yearly | $0 with Workspace for Nonprofits | $8 (billing basis not stated) |
| What's included | Standard seats in a Business workspace | Copilot add-on; needs a separate Microsoft 365 license. Copilot Chat is free | Gemini app and NotebookLM; not Gemini in Gmail or Docs | Standard Team seats, 2 to 150 seats |
| Eligibility | Verified by Goodstack; exclusions not confirmed | Verified through Microsoft Nonprofits | 501(c)(3), verified by Goodstack | 501(c)(3) or equivalent, verified by Goodstack |
| How to apply | OpenAI's Goodstack form | Microsoft Nonprofits, then admin center or a partner | Google for Nonprofits, then Admin console | Anthropic's Goodstack form |
| The catch | Religious-organization eligibility unconfirmed | Copilot Business at $21 is cheaper and has no nonprofit price | Free only through Workspace for Nonprofits | Excludes government, campaigns, higher ed, health systems |
ChatGPT (OpenAI for Nonprofits)
OpenAI's nonprofit help article lists ChatGPT Business Standard seats at $8 per user per month billed annually, or $10 billed monthly. The regular price, from OpenAI's ChatGPT Business article, is $20 billed annually or $25 monthly, with a minimum of 2 seats. ChatGPT Team was renamed ChatGPT Business in August 2025.
To apply, fill out OpenAI's Goodstack form with the email you use, or will use, for ChatGPT Business. If you already have a Business workspace, the discount applies to Standard seats after approval. Larger nonprofits can ask OpenAI sales about Enterprise, which the help article describes as "up to a 75% discount" without a published price.
The catch: Premium seats ($100 billed annually) get no discount, and there is no nonprofit discount on the OpenAI API. More important for churches, OpenAI's help article does not list excluded organization types, and we could not read OpenAI's main nonprofit page. A 2024 secondary report said religious organizations were excluded; we have not confirmed that, and it may be out of date. If you are a church or ministry, check the eligibility questions in the Goodstack form before you budget on $8.
Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft's nonprofit offers page lists Microsoft 365 Copilot at $25.50 per user per month, paid yearly. That is 15% off the $30 list price. It is an add-on, so each user also needs a qualifying Microsoft 365 license. The same page says Copilot Chat is included in your Microsoft 365 subscription at no extra charge, which covers the free Business Basic grant.
You register and verify with Microsoft Nonprofits, then buy the nonprofit-priced subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center or through a partner. If you already pay full price, switch at renewal: a 2024 Microsoft Tech Community post says licenses added to an existing full-price subscription don't get the discount.
The catch: Copilot Business, for Microsoft 365 Business plan customers with up to 300 users, lists at $21 per user per month paid yearly, with an $18 first-year promotion running July 1 to December 31, 2026. That is already below the $25.50 nonprofit price. A Microsoft staff reply on Tech Community in December 2025 said there is no nonprofit price for Copilot Business; we have not seen that re-confirmed since. Confirm with Microsoft or your partner that your plan qualifies for Copilot Business before buying.
Gemini (Google Workspace for Nonprofits)
Google's nonprofit AI help article says the Gemini app and NotebookLM are included at no cost in Google Workspace for Nonprofits, with enterprise-grade data protections, up to 2,000 users. The comparison point is a personal Google AI Pro plan at $19.99 a month, which staff often pay for themselves.
To get it, create a Google for Nonprofits account, complete Goodstack verification, activate Workspace for Nonprofits, and turn on the Gemini app and NotebookLM in the Admin console. Google's eligibility rules require 501(c)(3) status in the US and exclude government entities, hospitals and health care organizations, schools and universities, and fiscally sponsored groups without their own 501(c)(3). Charitable arms of hospitals and schools may apply.
The catch: it is free only through Google Workspace for Nonprofits. Gemini inside Gmail, Docs and Meet, such as Help me write and Meet note-taking, is not in the free edition; Google's article lists it with nonprofit Business Standard at $3.50 per user per month, against $14 standard. Staff also have to use their organization accounts, and chats in personal accounts don't move over on their own. If you're choosing between Google and Microsoft for the base suite, see Google Workspace vs Microsoft 365 for nonprofits.
Claude (Claude for Nonprofits)
Anthropic's nonprofit page lists a "nonprofit standard" Team price of $8 per user per month for 2 to 150 seats. Claude's pricing page lists Team Standard seats at $20 billed annually or $25 monthly. Nonprofits in World Bank low- or middle-income countries pay $3; that rate does not apply to US organizations. The help center lists Enterprise at $10 per user per month for nonprofits.
You verify through Anthropic's Goodstack form. Teams under 20 people follow a setup email with the discount applied; 20 or more go through Anthropic's nonprofit sales team.
The catch: the help center excludes government agencies, political campaigns, higher education institutions and healthcare systems, though K-12 schools and certain rural and community health providers are eligible. Anthropic's page does not say whether the $8 is the annual or monthly rate, or whether it covers Premium seats. Anthropic suggests organizations under 5 employees use Claude Pro at $20 a month, which has no nonprofit price.
Worked example: a 5-person team for one year
Here is what 5 staff would pay for 12 months, at list price and at the nonprofit price, as of October 2026. Annual billing is used where the vendor offers it.
- ChatGPT Business: $20 × 5 × 12 = $1,200 list. $8 × 5 × 12 = $480 nonprofit. Saving: $720. Billed monthly, it is $25 × 5 × 12 = $1,500 against $10 × 5 × 12 = $600.
- Claude Team: $20 × 5 × 12 = $1,200 list. $8 × 5 × 12 = $480 nonprofit. Saving: $720, assuming the $8 is the annual-billing rate, which Anthropic doesn't state.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot: $30 × 5 × 12 = $1,800 list. $25.50 × 5 × 12 = $1,530 nonprofit. Saving: $270. But Copilot Business is $21 × 5 × 12 = $1,260, or $18 × 5 × 12 = $1,080 in the promotional first year, with no discount needed. All Copilot figures are on top of the base Microsoft 365 license.
- Gemini: five personal Google AI Pro plans are $19.99 × 5 × 12 = $1,199.40. Through Workspace for Nonprofits, the Gemini app is $0. Saving: $1,199.40, though AI Pro's extras such as storage aren't replaced. If you also want Gemini in Gmail and Docs, nonprofit Business Standard is $3.50 × 5 × 12 = $210, against $14 × 5 × 12 = $840 standard.
Two cautions. These are list prices; your own invoice is the right starting point, and the free audit works from what you actually pay. And the tools are not interchangeable, so the cheapest line is only the right answer if it does what your staff need.
Which one should you pick?
Start with what you already have. If your organization is on Google Workspace for Nonprofits, the Gemini app costs nothing extra. If you are on Microsoft 365, Copilot Chat is already included; for the full Copilot add-on, compare Copilot Business against the nonprofit price before you buy. If you want a separate assistant, ChatGPT Business and Claude Team cost the same $8 per seat, so compare the products on your own tasks, and check each one's eligibility rules first. Prices change often in this category, so recheck the vendor page on the day you sign up.
