Is Salesforce free for nonprofits?

The first ten licenses are. Salesforce's Power of Us program donates 10 Enterprise Edition licenses that don't expire, as of October 2026. You choose either 10 Agentforce Nonprofit licenses (the product formerly called Nonprofit Cloud) or 10 Sales and Service licenses. For most small nonprofits, the license is the cheap part. Setting Salesforce up, and keeping it running, is where the money goes.

What the discount actually covers

The donation covers the software licenses only. It does not include:

  • Users 11 and up. Salesforce's nonprofit pricing page lists Sales & Service Core at $70 per user per month, billed annually; Advanced at $125; and Sales Max or Service Max at $285.
  • Implementation. Moving from another CRM is a data migration and configuration project that usually needs an implementation partner. Salesforce doesn't publish partner rates, and quotes vary widely with scope, so get at least two.
  • Administration. Someone has to maintain users, reports, automations and data quality. That is either staff time or a paid consultant.

Worked example

License value. A 10-user nonprofit gets licenses that, at the commercial Sales Cloud Core price of $195 per user per month, would list at 10 × $195 × 12 = $23,400 per year. Commercial and nonprofit editions aren't packaged identically, so treat that as an approximate comparison.

Growing past ten. The same organization at 14 users pays for 4 additional Core licenses:

  • 4 × $70 × 12 = $3,360 per year
  • Compared with 14 × $195 × 12 = $32,760 at commercial list, an approximate saving of $29,400

What a small organization actually saves. If the alternative is a donor database costing a few hundred dollars a month, the comparison isn't $23,400 versus $0. It is your current CRM cost versus Salesforce's implementation plus admin time. Add up:

  1. one-time implementation (from partner quotes),
  2. ongoing admin hours per month × your hourly cost,
  3. any additional licenses at $70+ per user per month.

If that total over three years exceeds what you pay for your current system over three years, the free licenses don't save you money.

Who should and shouldn't take the free licenses

Good fit:

  • You have, or can fund, a Salesforce administrator (staff or contract).
  • Your needs go beyond a donor database: case management, programs, volunteers, or complex integrations.
  • You expect to stay at or near 10 internal users, or can budget $840+ per added user per year.

Probably too small:

  • One or two people manage donor records part time.
  • No one on staff wants to own the system.
  • Your current donor database already does what you need, and the main appeal is "free."

Pick the bundle carefully. You choose Agentforce Nonprofit or Sales and Service, not both, and donations are generally one per EIN.

Before you commit, the free audit can show what you spend on your current CRM and related tools, so the comparison starts from real numbers. For other options, the nonprofit software discounts guide lists every program we track.

Church eligibility

Our data records no exclusion of churches. Salesforce asks for a tax ID plus legal documentation such as a 501(c)(3) letter or an equivalent. A church without a determination letter should ask Salesforce which documents it will accept, for example a group-exemption letter from its denomination. See church eligibility for nonprofit discounts.

How to apply

  1. Gather tax ID and legal documentation
  2. Log in to the Power of Us portal with a Trailblazer ID
  3. Complete the form and upload documents
  4. Approval email within 3 business days
  5. Select a bundle (or 'Product Discounts Only' if on Unlimited Edition)

Catches and limitations

  • Implementation and admin cost often exceed license savings
  • Bundle choice: Agentforce Nonprofit OR Sales and Service, not both
Switching: Moving from another CRM is a significant data migration and configuration project; usually needs an implementation partner.
